The answers varied, from suggestions to replacing motherboard and
memory, to dicussions on which rev of the OS to us, and an idea to
send the crashdump to Sun (a good idea!) --
I'm scheduling an outage to take care of the hardware, and then will
monitor for the next crash and report that to Sun. A combination of
approaches, all of which will surely fix the problem ?:-)
Many thanx...

A customer of ours was expierencing problems with an SS20---frequent
crashes without an obvious source. Both motherboad and RAM were
repaced by Sun. Now the box is working fine. Yes, it was a new machine!

John,
First, enable crashdump on the system so that a core file will
be created under /var/crash/"hostname" next time the system
crashes. Once it does, reboot the system and tar the 8Mb file off
to a tape, log a support call to Sun asking for a crash dump
analysis.
They should put you in touch with an engineer that will tell
you where to send the tape. This is the most expedient way
to figure out the type of error you are having.

Hi John,
Why are you using SunOS 4.1.3C ? SunOS 4.1.3C is reserved for Classic
and LX platforms and ONLY for these platforms.
I think, the reason of your crash is due to the fact the you're using
the wrong Operating System for your SS20.
Install earlier Solaris 1.1.1 (sunOS 4.1.3_U1) + patch : 101508-xx and
I think your problem will be solved.
Best Regards,
Yves Hardy from AB Computers in Belgium

If it were me, I would swap out the ram for some ram in a less
critical machine. I had the same failure with (by coincidence)
a critical sparc 10, after adding 128 megs of ram to it.
I just happened to have another machine around with a bunch of
ram, and as soon as I saw the MMU that's what I thought of.
(Memory Mngt. Unit) -- the problem, presto, went away.
Now I don't claim to understand the SunOS kernel to this level,
so don't blame me if it doesn't work -- but I'd bet a week's
pay on it.

Sorry - no help. Just a "me too". You didn't mention that you'd
post a summary, so if you don't, would you be so kind as to send
me a copy of the resolution, if you find one? I think I've seen that
message on my WS before and I'd like to know what to do about it.
Thanks,
Aaron
