Hi,

I am VERY late with this summary, sorry! My original question was:

>> Can anyone point me to the sun manual (or describe to me) that explains how to set up a >> >>SECURE anonymous ftp environment? We are running Sun/OS V4.1.3_U1...
>> Also, has sun set up a web server yet? If yes, where is it located?

I received 22 responses.

Most of the people responding to my first question recommended installing the WU-ARCHIVE FTPD. It allows additional security features such as:

- logging of file transfers
- logging of commands
- system-wide and per-directory messages
- etc...

It is available via anonymous ftp at a number of sites. I got our copy at: wuarchive.wustl.edu

I followed the ftpd man page to set up the directory structure (very descriptive about permissions and ownerships), created ftp account on system, and then built the ftpd according to the installation instructions for wu-archive. Very easy and had no problems compiling and starting up the new daemon.

I was also pointed in the direction of Sun's web server: .http://www.sun.com
(I had tried this, but it must have been down when I tried. I have since been able to access it.)

Many thanks to the people who responded (too numerous to name here!).
