The helpful chap at sun and some jerry pointed out that since I was modifying
a rc.local file then I wasnt using Solaris - well as I pointed out the machine
is inherited - there's an rc.local file there and it was being used at boot time.

This turned out to be just a problem with the ethernet break-out point and things
were getting a tad confused at 12:45am this morning. (ah - maybe it's cause it
was Halloween;-D)
