Hi sun-managers,

Everyone who responded was correct in asking if I was
using a colorful background. The answer was yes, a gif. I
did a "xsetroot -solid color" and then ran calctool and
it came up perfectly w/o problems. Thanks to all
who explained that I had probably used up all the colors
in the colormap and I couldn't allocate anymore.
