On the problem of the lost /usr because of user reconfigure.
Most response included boot to cdrom and mount the the /usr
part to a /tmp and conduct a ufsrestore.
That Did the trick but the real problem was that the /dev and /devices
directories got hammered. Once I restored those I was able to boot o.k.
Thanks for all the suggestions (there where many and most good).
