The problem is that that particular rev and arch of OS can't see a drive
larger than 1.07GB formatted capacity. The reason has to do with the number
of bits used to access block numbers on the drive. Fortunately there's a
patch for it ...

The patch is SunOS patch 100474-01.

Pat Myrto also added that the bug shows up specifically when one is
trying to set a large defect list.

It has also been suggested that in a pinch one could copy the format
executable from a 4.1.3 system.

I haven't had a chance to try either yet, but I believe that either
method should work.
