I wan't to run a nis server on a Solaris 2.x machine. I know of a
SunSoft product "Naming Services Transition Kit (for Solaris 2.2 &
2.3)", product name NIS-PSITE, but one of my friends have tried it,
and cannot recommend it. It crashes in intervals of 5 to 20 minutes
with the following message:
> ld.so.1: /usr/lib/netsvc/yp/ypserv: fatal: relocation error: symbol
> not found: __xdr_yprequest: referenced in /usr/lib/netsvc/yp/ypserv
Ok, now I want to know if any of you know of a third party nis-server
product, that runs fine?
Five of those run the program without any problems. One have problems,
and thinks of looking at the Linux software.
D.A.Stewart@ee.edinburgh.ac.uk says there is a patch for my problem
(see below), but he have not installed it. He has installed the
And finally Glenn Satchell tells the name of the NSkit patch:

This is a port of the C2 Jumbo patch (100201-04) to NSkit.
It is required on Solaris 2.x machines using the NSkit to support
C2 security. This patch includes fixes for the following bugs:
yppasswd will not allow user to change passwd from client, the daemon
dies on server
rpc.yppasswdd uses an incorrect lock file
rpc.pwdauthd logs cleartext passwords via auditd
NIS and C2 Security passwd.adjunct file can get overwritten by passwd
When running C2 with NIS, yppasswd password changes from client system
would take 5 minutes of delay before taking effect.
rpc.yppasswdd does not accept ":" characters
as a valid passwd character when changing an existent passwd entry.
rpc.pwdauthd's core image contains plaintext passwords and passwd.adjunct `
rpc.yppasswdd sometimes corrupt passwd dbm files
Sun in Denmark sent me this info:
SMCC will begin shipping this product at the end of next quarter (FYQ1).
Being a Solaris transition aid, the kit will be supported only until
the end of calendar year 1994.
