Thanks to Jonathan Loh. He pointed me to "scsiinfo" that can generate
format.dat info for disk drives.

This really should go into the sun man faq.
There is a program called scsiinfo. I forget where it is so
archie for it. It will generate a format dat entry for you along with a
c partion entry. There is a rathere complete man page included with
scsiinfo. Roughly what using scsiinfo entails is from the pristine
hard drive state (new unformatted) you need to run format twice on the
drive. Once not knowing the correct params. run scsiinfo on the newly
formatted drive and get the correct format.dat entry (this format.dat
entry is sometimes, as in our case, better than the manufacturers
specs!) and format it again using the correct specs.
