SUMMARY: ftp: unknown host

From: S. Cowles (scowles@scheffer.stanford.edu)
Date: Fri May 20 1994 - 01:10:44 CDT

Original statement:

orig: Configuration:
orig: Sparc 10, Solaris 2.3, no patches, no nis/nis+
orig:
orig: On this machine, when I ftp to a system that is not in the /etc/hosts
orig: file, ftp reports that the host is unknown. Ftp to our local hosts
orig: works fine, and name lookup with nslookup correctly hits the designated
orig: domain name server and returns correct IP addresses.

Solution:

Add the line

hosts: files dns [NOTFOUND=return]

to /etc/nsswitch.conf.
