SUMMARY - Logical Volume Manager

My question was:

>Can anyone point me at software that will perform the function of a
>"logical volume manager" for a Sun system running SunOS 4.1.3.
>We would like to be able to treat a group of disks as a single unit.

I received 29 responses; most were very favorable comments about Sun's
Online DiskSuite product. I also received the following pointers:

* RAID systems

* You might try speaking with Veritas. They offer a volume management
product among others. I've been testing with it here, and have been quite
pleased with the results.
        Also Sun is developing a product as well, but it isn't due out for a
few more months. In fact they are using the Veritas product on one of their
own products - the SPARC Storage Array.

        Veritas - 408-727-1222

* If you are interested in something to just be an independent NFS
server maybe you should check out the toaster by Network
Appliance Corp (415)428-5100. It works best if you have FDDI.

* DEFINITELY the new Sun RAID software will do this.
