SUMMARY : rdump error protocol botched in rmtgets

 | CAn anybody help me out with the following problem.
 | I am trying to rdump to the server from other clients. The name of the clients
 | are included in the .rhosts file and root can log on without a passwd.
 | I get the message protocol botched in rmtgets along with a connection
 | timed out message.
 | The server is a Sparc 2 running 4.1.2 and the clients are
 | a mix of Sparc 2s and NeXT ( 3.2 & 3.1). I get the message on all the
 | clients irrespective of the OS.
 | Any help would be appreciated.

The bug was the stty command in .login file. Thanks to everyone who
replied. Below is the list. So the solution was to remove the entry
which uses any interactive output from the startup files.
