Thanks to all who responded.  It appears to me that changing the DEFAULT
whois server when using the Sun provided whois will be far to much trouble.
I decided to go get rwhois from rs.internic.net and copied over the Sun
provided version.  rwhois can be configured for the default server and can
be configured for search lists.  I like it better.
I was most amazed that somebody actually answered during the Cowboys game.
