I am presently working on serial line communications with several flavours of UNIX
(namely: SUNOS4.1, SCO UNIX, Chorus/MiX3.2) and I have problems understanding clearly
how all this works. For example when perfoming the following:
Machine A Machine B
cat >/dev/ttya cat </dev/ttya
I had to understand that:
- nobody seems to really understand the numerous options of stty
- configuring the ttya with "stty" works only if a process runs on it
- stty options are not consistent between the flavours of UNIX
(e.g. crtscts on SUN vs ctsflow/rtsflow on SCO,...)
- <LOT OF MESS NOT WRITTEN> etc...
Therefore, I am fed up with keeping a wolf paw in my pocket and dropping some salt over
my shoulder each time I want to configure that f*****g ttya. Does any one know some
clear and understandable litterature that would help me understanding this once for
all (maybe a SUMMARY or a FAQ article has been already posted) ?
Any help would be appreciated.
