System:
=========

Sparc 10/41
SunOs 4.1.3.

I am trying to set up an alias for our main machine that would allow folks
to ftp to ftp.cch.com.

I have added an entry to the DNS named.hosts file thusly.

        ftp IN CNAME cchtor.cch.com.
        cchtor IN A 192.139.241.2
                IN MX 10 cchtor.cch.com.
                IN MX 15 mail.uunet.ca.
                IN MX 20 relay1.uu.net.
                IN MX 20 relay2.uu.net.

The NIS hosts map has been updated to reflect the alias as such:

        192.139.241.2 cchtor loghost mailhost dumphost timehost ftp

I can ping ftp but I cannot ping ftp.cch.com. I can ping other hosts in
the domain, eg: goofy.cch.com so things are set up and are working for
the domain.

============================== Solution ======================================

change:
         ftp IN CNAME cchtor.cch.com.

To:

        ftp IN CNAME cchtor

This works !!.

Thanks Adap.
