Last week or so I asked if there was any reason why I shouldn't
softlink the OpenWindows directories from /usr/openwin/* up to
/usr/*/X11, viz,
ln -s /usr/openwin/bin /usr/bin/X11
ln -s /usr/openwin/lib /usr/lib/X11
ln -s /usr/openwin/include/X11 /usr/include/X11
Thanks to those who replied to me. Basically the consensus of opinion
is that this is fine. However you still need the LD_LIBRARY_PATH
variable set, and it's necessary to include the maths library (libm) on
the linker line for X apps, and possibly the resolver (libresolv) too.
Another point made is that there are actually a couple of X library
patches available from Sun - 100512-04 and 100573-04 which fix problems
with libXt (harmless unresolved linker references) and libXmu.
