   Sun-managers,

Here is a second summary, based on the overwhelming response the
   last one received. :-)

Moral: to create waves, mention vi and emacs in the same posting :-)
  ---------------------------------------------------------------------

I received several responses as to the correct 'usage' of emacs. :-)

Four respondants suggested adding the following line to the .emacs
   file:

         (setq require-final-newline t)

which would force emacs to add a newline to the file before exiting.
   Another suggested this alternative:

         (setq require-final-newline 'ask)

   Jared_Rhine@hmc.edu provided the following:

    | 'require-final-newline':
    |
    | Documentation:
    | *Value of t says silently ensure a file ends in a newline when
    | it is saved. Non-nil but not t says ask user whether to add
    | a newline when there isn't one. nil means don't add newlines.
    |
    | I would recommend adding a line like:
    |
    | (setq require-final-newline 1)
    |
    | to your .emacs.

   Patrick O'Callaghan < poc@usb.ve > suggested using IDA-sendmail
   which doesn't have this problem.

   Thanks to all respondents,

P.S. I filtered out all vi vs. emacs comments as they weren't
         particularly appropriate.

    P.S.S. I built emacs 19.19 this morning on our SS1000, and I
used vi to edit its' makefiles. This message was
composed in emacs. I guess that makes me
           'ambideditrous' :-)
