SUMMARY: sparcprinter offline

In response to my original question, which was what to do when an apparently
functional SparcPRINTER signals its offline, I git a number of replies.

They all (but one) said that they had the same problem, and would I summarise
when I had an answer. Well, I dont have one.

Janet Ulrich passed on this recipe:

  What I do is login
as root (or su - root), start lpc, issue "restart <printer name>", and issue
"stat" to check the status. If the status still shows a problem, I issue the
"restart <printer name>" command again and check "stat" again. Occasionally,
I have to exit lpc and kill the printer process which lpc echos back as killed
manually. Then restart lpc and go through the "restart <printer name>
procedure again. This has successfully cleared the problem up in all cases.

However, i tried it when one of my printers died last week, and I still had to
reboot.

So, if anybody (Sun maybe - are you listening at planet Printer) has an answer,
I am still eager to hear it.
