Solution :
----------
My solution is simple since I am only interested in lengths of
25-30 ft for the monitor & keyboard cables. I guess I will get a 25 ft
Monitor & Keyboard Combination Maxi cable from Nudata Inc. as pointed out
by Bill Quayle.
For those interested in much greater cable lengths, you might want
to call -
        Lightwave Communications, Inc.
        84 Reasearch drive
        Milford, CT 06460
        Philip Franceschini
        Phone : (203) 874-9838

Their product VDE/200 Video Display extension System allows
displays and keyboards to be located upto 10,000 ft.

We have used a cable nearly 100ft long in the past and it has been OK.
We use a 13W3 to 4 BNC adaptor on each end ie: on the monitor and
the framebuffer and standard video cabling in between. The cable is
kept in a closet for special occasions like when we are running demos and
things.

25 ft should work well. If you cant get a modular cable try what we have
done the adaptors are standard Sun parts.

Like you say there are lots of other boxes to do the job.
If you are looking at distances in excess of 60-100ft a video amplifier may
be a good idea.

Manish,

You say you're not interested in third party systems, then
you are limited to what Sun sells, i.e. 25 foot cables.
If, however, you mean you are not interested in the third
party video amps, but are still interested in third party
cables, I have some worthwhile information.
I've just received a catalog from:
NuData, Inc.
32 Fairview Ave.
Little Silver, NJ 07739-9976
(908) 842-5757
...they state:
"You can move your monitor and keyboard up to 150 feet away
from the CPU with no need for external amplifiers or equalizers."
(using their "MAXI-CABLES"). They offer configurations to
attach to any combination of monitor/keyboard/CPU that I've
ever heard of.

Note: I haven't used them, but plan on ordering some 50-footers
soon.

Cheers,
Bill

we have had trouble with greater than 80 feet.
up to that seams fine and we are currently using 70 foot cables now.
our cables are inhouse co-ax.

Hi Manish Bhatia,

We are interested in running our monitors and keyboards long distances,
but we
haven't gotten around to searching out the details.

I know Artecon has advertized Sun monitor extension cables, but there are
probably many other vendors out there that have similar items.

I'm interested in what you find out and I would appreciate a summary.

Thanks.
