I received the following information:

disk_type = "CDC Wren VIII ST41650N, 1.65GByte" \
        : ctlr = SCSI : fmt_time = 4 \
        : cache = 0xd4 : trks_zone = 1 : asect = 0 \

        : rpm = 3600 : bpt = 41301

This yields 2105*15*88 = 2,778,600 / 512 byte blocks = 1.4226 GBytes
before newfs writes out the I-nodes.

Hi,
I setup a Wren8 ST41650N last week. I don't know how the S differs from the N, but
maybe this will help. One number you should be aware of is the 87 sectors per track.
I talked to a technician at Seagate and he said that they use "zone bit recording".
That is, the number of sectors per track increases as you go from the inside of
the disk to the outside. 87 sectors per track is an average and should be used in
your format.dat entry. I have been using this disk for about a week with good
results.

disk_type = "SEAGATE Wren VIII ST41650N" \
        : ctlr = MD21 : fmt_time = 5 \
        : cache = 0xd4 : trks_zone = 15 : asect = 5 : atrks = 30 \
        : ncyl = 2105 : acyl = 2 : pcyl = 2107 : nhead = 15 : nsect = 87 \
        : rpm = 3600 : bpt = 41301

---- end of included file ----

I went with the last one because it was closest to the Info I already had
and I wanted to follow the remarks on the 87 sectors given therein;
using this format.dat the disk formatted OK and is in use since without
any problems.

Many thanks to the respondents!
