Original Question:
===========================================================

We recently received 2 Sparc 10's. Unfortunately for us,
Sun is no longer shipping with Thick Ethernet, but is
using Twisted Pair, instead. It would have been nice
if we had known this when we were ordering. As it is,
we can't hook the 10's up to our network and Sun
seems to be considerably backordered -- Sun Express
doesn't carry them; GTSI is saying they don't expect
any until Dec 31! Sun Micro says 10 - 15 days.
Sounds like they were really thinking on this one.
Is anyone else having better success?
===========================================================

1) The SS10 product brochure supposedly points out this
    issue. I haven't seen the brochure, so I can't
    vouch for this, but in any case, we ordered our
    10's long before there were any brochures.

2) The sales rep actually brought this up with management.
    Management said we didn't need the cable. OOPS!

3) Sun Express evidently got the cables faster than they
   originally told me. Also, our sales rep hustled to
   accelerate the order.

4) Some people got cables for FREE with their order.

5) You could stick with the TP connection and probably buy an appropriate
   transceiver from commercial vendors like Cabletron.
   We move machines to different nets, some with fiber (two different sizes),
   some with Thick Ethernet, etc. We have lots of
   transceivers already, so I'd just as soon stick with
   a standard (formerly) AUI adapter.

6) The part number is X987A and it's about $75 list.
