Once again the sun-managers list comes through. I decided to
summarize after 15 answers; apologies to those who send me something
later.
The majority deals with this by setting the umask somewhere previous
to firing the ftpd off, also preferrably before inetd. This causes
ftpd to inherit the umask and solves the problem.
Several folks mentioned the ftpd available from wuarchive.wustl.edu,
which I had considered also. I will try the umask first, since we
aren't doing any anonymous ftp service, then look at the wuarchive
source.
A few kind souls said they'd make their code available; if need be,
I'll take you up on it.
