My apologies for not posting this summary sooner. I wanted to try the
solution first. My original question:

>> Has anyone had any success in using Backup Copilot? Since I haven't
>> cut a PO yet, I can't get any assistance from Sun Custumer Support.
>>
>> Backup Copilot starts up on schedule, checks the label on the first
>> drive and starts my dumps. It appears to dump the first two file
>> systems successfully, then encounters an error. An error notification
>> is mailed (I should have kept one) but no operator intervention is
>> requested. It then proceeds to rewind the first tape device and write
>> over the dumps it has already completed.
>>
>> Configuration:
>>
>> Backup Copilot running on a Sun 4/110 running SunOS 4.1.1
>> with a single 8mm tape drive from Delta Micro.
>> Dumping a 4/330 running 4.1.1, no local tape drive
>> A second 8mm is available on a 3/260 also running 4.1.1.

I received three responses (many thanks to all) the solution was to
obtain Patch 100551-02 from Sun.

Again many thanks to:
