Summary: modload causes system crash

In response to my query:

     System: Sparc 1, 4/60, SunOS 4.1.2

In the midst of installing NeWSprint 2.0, SPARCprinter option,
the script causes my sparc to crash. I have isolated it to the
"modload" step. When I attempt to run it by hand, with debugging
enabled, these are the last two messages I get:

     ld -o /etc/lpvi.out -Bstatic -T ff01c000 -A /vmunix -N -e \
         _lpviinit -s ./lpvi.o
     Removing symbol table

Then, the sparc crashes with the following message:

panic: addintr: interrupt trap vector busy

This happens regardless of running multi- or single-user, and
regardless of whether I specify the running kernel (/vmunix) or a
     copy I've made.

As far as I can tell, my sparc is correctly configured for
loadable modules. Also, the SPARCprinter installation script
claims I do not have to reconfigure the kernel to do the
install. I was thinking of modifying the installation script to
force a reconfiguration, but I would like to know if there are
      other alternatives.

I got responses from:

datri@concave.convex.com
tom@sees.bangor.ac.uk
sgp@phyast.nhn.uoknor.edu

As it turns out, since it is a SPARC 1, we must upgrade our PROM
to version 1.3. This is actually noted in the documentation (but not
stated very strongly, IMHO).
