Thanks to those that responded to my question about speech
synthesizers for Sun workstations. The only speech synthesizer
software that people mentioned is the "speak" system. Most of this
software is in the public domain, but parts are copyrighted by Brown
University. The quality of the speech produced is poor, but hey, it's
free, and it looks reasonably simple to modify it to work with
languages other than English. To get the code, ftp to
wilma.cs.brown.edu, and bring over pub/speak.tar.Z.
