Many thanks to all those who replied! The solution was to edit
/usr/lib/lang_info and add the following line:
pascal 2.0 4.0
This was not mentioned anywhere in the installation guide that
Sun gives out (at least those that they hand out to site license
people). The only vague reference to this crucial file was in
the section "Getting Help", where they say
If you have any problems installing...call Sun
Microsystems...have your system's model number, serial
number, Sun Pascal 2.0 release number...ready to give
to the dispatcher...
To see the Pascal release number, type: cat /usr/lib/lang_info
I have licenses for the server and the number of workstations the
server supports, so what baffled me was how it would not update or
tell you to update the lang_info file after installation.
If you install onto a server, you must manually go to the lang_info
file of each workstation (or use rdist) and add the requisite data.
As a small followup (no summary unless requested), does anyone know
who to send e-mail to for such documentation omissions? My guess is
that this information is probably somewhere in the "Real Manual"
(which is on order, since our site license office does not supply
documentation along with the tapes), but somehow missed making it
into the installation guide.

PS: I found a last minute bug in the filter for the Epson dot-matrix
printer (I meant to post a summary Monday); I'll post the summary
late next week.
