Thanks to all the respondants.
Unfortunately, I've had to loan out my transceiver for a week so I can't
test any of the advice. BUT, the consensus seems to be that a jumper for
J800 on the CPU board needs to be put in to force the 4/110 to use thick
ethernet. Otherwise, the machine will try to automatically determine which
(thick or thin) it's connected to, and it seems to be using thin ethernet.
I've installed the jumper, and operation without the transceiver appears
normal. If the problem's still present when I get the transceiver back,
I'll repost. Just wanted to get the info off to the others that asked
