OK. I am adding to my summary here:

Keeping all that's said of the missing packages, my idea of installing the
packages from the opensolaris link don't seem to be good idea going by the
advices  from a couple of gurus. It is recommended to do a full upgrade to
8/07 rather than resorting to the lazy man approach of installing the
missing packages only.
