SUMMARY - T2000: Poor Network Performance

All,

Thanks for all the replies, but mainly to John Garner for sharing some
performance figures he had done himself on this.

The problem is with the performance of the T2000 itself on a single
thread app. When you ftp to the server, the ftpd is obviously only one
thread, and the system could only pull in up to 25Mb/s through the NIC.
If you launched another ftp session at the same time the total ftp
traffic increased to 50Mb/s, this continues until you saturate the
interface (running at 100Mb/s FD). But a single thread _can't_ utilize
the full 100Mb.

Which frankly sucks! My Ultra 10 can do that. You really do have to be
careful with these systems, and ensure your workload is going to fit
well with the strengths that this box undoubtedly has.

Best regards

Rob Brown
