Thanks to all who replied:

Capser Dik had it:

Originally: After the restore, I was sitting at a boot prompt where I was
being asked to load "kernel/unix" -- and for the life of me, I could not
find this. I looked on the physical disk and could find /kernel/genunix, but
no /kernel/unix.

Casper pointed me to the fact that it's actually looking for
/platform/{something}/kernel/unix where {something} is the uname -i output
(SUNW,Ultra-80 in my case). I added a symlink of SUNW,Ultra-80 pointing to
sun4u and voila.

It was asked if the original system was also a 420R -- I can't get to it at
the moment to check for sure, it might be a 6500, but was definitely not a
420R.

Thanks all.

Angelo
