Missing package info -- Summary

From: Deiter Scott <scottd_at_HanoverDirect.com>

The solution was to delete the directory /var/sadm/pkg/.save.SUNWcarx
	(that damn dot)

This directory was found by examining the output of this truss cmd.
truss -o /tmp/truss.out -aef pkginfo SUNWcarx

It appears that during the pkginfo that a check for the ".save."
directory is performed. If this directory exists the command will look
into the .save. directory for information. In our .save. directory the
pkginfo file was empty.

Subject: Missing package info

We have two similar Solaris 8 systems.
Fred(production) SUN E450
Pebbles(test) SUN ES5000
Both are running the Lawson financials application and oracle.

Pebbles was cloned using netbackup from Fred in 2003.

The latest attempt to patch pebbles failed because of an error with the
SUNWcarx and SUNWcsr packages. The file /var/sadm/pkg/SUNWcsr/pkginfo
was
missing from pebbles. This was modified to reflect the current patches
on
pebbles and the copied to pebbles.
This resolved error returned from the "pkginfo SUNWcsr" command.

However, we have not been able to resolve the package issues with
SUNWcarx.
The pkginfo SUNWcarx command returns this message:
ERROR: information for "SUNWcarx" was not found
This same error is repeated in Solaris_8_Recommended_Patch_Cluster_log
many
times

The pkgchk SUNWcarx returns a zero return code.
Below is a file list of /var/sadm/pkg/SUNWcarx directory on pebbles.
	pebbles:/var/sadm/pkg/SUNWcsr#ll
	total 72
	drwxr-xr-x 2 root other 1024 Apr 12 15:58 install
	-rw-r--r-- 1 root other 32272 Apr 12 15:57 pkginfo
	drwxr-xr-x 117 root other 2560 Apr 12 15:58 save
	pebbles:/var/sadm/pkg/SUNWcsr#

We have been told from our support folks that a new install of solaris 8
is
necessary. We want to find another way if possible. How do we correct
the
SUNWcarx package?
