Hi Admin,
The Summary of my Query is as follows. My sincere thanks to all who responded and given invaluable suggestions.

A Snip of mail from Matt

This file comes into play when the interface is being plumbed and
configured during the boot phase. The scripts will look in the file for
the proper netmask when the IP address is assigned so that the proper
netmask is also assigned. If the Solaris box is going to sit on a
network with a subnet mask different from the mask associated with the
various classes (A,B,C) of IP addresses then you dont need to put in the
details for the network. If you have networks which the machine sits on
that dont have standard netmasks then these masks need to be in the
netmasks file so the interface can be properly setup. I find it easy to
have a single file which has all the masks in it so I dont accidently
deploy a box which has the wrong subnet mask on it.

Thanks and Regards,
Vishwanath

	Subject: Netmasks in Solaris

	Hi Admins,
We are trying to have a standard netmasks file across all the machines in the network. However, the network team feels that the netmasks file need not have the details of other "friendly" networks.

To understand netmasks from the Solaris perspective,
	1. Does the subnet masks(/etc/netmasks) play any role in Solaris Security.
2.Do I need to have the subnet masks of other networks in my Solaris box ?

	Any help is appreciated...

	Thanks,
	Vishwanath
