Thanks a lot to all those who spared their time to help me. Most of you seemed
to suggest file growth in the root file system and you where correct. A file,
0n (which I thought and beleave could have been linked the /devices) was
keeping growing in the /dev/rmt directory as 0n. This file was growing after
each backup taken and I am still wondering why and how could it happen. As it
is a different issue altogether, if there is a quick respond from anyone of
you, it is wellcome. At the moment I will cool down and look at the new mistry
carefully and as time permits.
Thanks again for all quick responds which I received.

My orginal request was as:

My root file system is full and I was trying to find out whether I could
extend it somehow, but I could not find a way to do so. Does anyone out
there
know how I can go about it without, backing the system to tape, reorganise
the
file system and restore the system. For a much clear understanding of where
I
have bungled I have included the df output and a cut off from the format
output. Links to appropriate documentation is well come.

Please note that my disk was fully partioned.
