Thank's very much to Charles Homan and Angel Alejandro Vega Soto:

They suggest additional changes/check's:

a. Check /etc/nodename and the three /etc/net/tic*/hosts files.
b. Check the /etc/printers.conf probably the configuration of the printers
is referenced to the old hostnames.

These checks/chnges solve the problem.

Thank's again.

Asunto: problem: could not talk to print service

Hi all, I have a sun e3500 (running Solaris 8) with two net cards, one named
e3500 (, other named santafe (

I change "on the fly" the ip of the first card (e3500) with the next steps:

a. add one entry on /etc/hosts	stafe2
a. Change de hostname to santafe (uname -S santafe)
b. ifconfig hme0 plumb
c. change /etc/hostname.hme0 (before: e3500, after: stafe2)
d. ifconfig hme0
e. ifconfig hme0 netmask
f. ifconfig hme0 up
g. add at the end of the line with the santafe in /etc/hosts,	santafe	e3500

After this is done, lpshut then lpstart

The printers don't work and the cancel show

# cancel prueba
can't connect to e3500
# ping e3500
e3500 is alive

I do some thing wrong? I can make some modification?

Thank's you very much.
