SUMMARY: DLT Tape / WIN2k Backup

Thanks to everyone who replied. They all confirmed what I suspected from the
beginning, that I wouldn't be able to recover this information given the
format. I did go back to the vendor and requested them to gzip it through
their Linux. I'll have the tape this afternoon. I also have to remember that
when my manager ask me things like "what size tape do you use on that
thing?," to ask WHY? (Two lessons learned here.)

My original message is below.

Thanks again.

Managers:

I realize this may be the wrong forum, but I'm desperate. I have a DLT 4500
attached to my SUN Enterprise 450. System works great, I'm able to do
backups, etc.

My problem...my boss requested a vendor to dump an entire image library onto
a DLT tape. Fine. But the vendor used WIN2K backup to do the dump. When I
try mt -f /dev/rmt/1n fsf 0, I get an I/O error, and the machine makes some
funny noises trying to read the tape. Does anyone know of a way to recover
these files from the tape using my SUN?

Thank you
