The solution is to install the latest recommended patches. Also thanks to Michael Connolly for suggesting to install patch 109221 for Sol 8 . Semion Pariy also recommended patching the system. At the prompts when the hostname,IP addresses information is required ,the keyboard doesn't function properly. A single key stroke results (n) in multiple output (nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn) . Once it is at the command prompt level , the keys are working ok. A printenv at the OBP shows normal settings . The system is running solaris 8 on a Ultra 5 .
