SUMMARY: SunBlade 100 / GNOME (Ximian)

I had to add '-dev /dev/fb defdepth 24 defclass TrueColor' to the Xservers
line. Looks beautiful now.

Thanks to John Martinez and Henrik Mortensen for their prompt replies to my
plea for help. Other replied as well, but these were the two big winners.

You don't set the color depth with fbconfig using Sun's X server on a Sun
box (it works very differently on Solaris Intel). You set it with the X
server.

On my SPARC box, I run at 1600x1200 with 24 bit color (Creator 3D on a U10).
Here's what the last line in my /usr/dt/config/Xservers file looks like
(it's wrapped):

   :0 Local local_uid@console root /usr/openwin/bin/Xsun :0 -nobanner
-dev /dev/fb defdepth 24

Notice that I added '-dev /dev/fb defdepth 24' to the "Xsun" line.

I run KDE out of the CDE login manager (dtlogin). Don't know about GNOME.

YMMV
