We have a server which we create and store all our 'home made' solaris packages. The box is a Sun Ultra10 running 2.6 (patched to 105181-26) and has two ide disks, one 8 Gb and one 4Gb. The behaviour we sometimes see is that when a package held in a file system on disk0 is copied (or moved) to a file system on disk1 the binary (package) becomes corrupted. To elaborate: section of df -k output: /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s6 6000000 4000000 2000000 66% /export/home/ /dev/dsk/c0t1d0s3 3000000 1000000 2000000 33% /export/home/development/packages If 'test' is a package I have created and is know to be working correctly and I do: cp /export/home/test /export/home/development/packages/test then: diff /export/home/test /export/home/development/packages/test I get the following message: Binary files /export/home/test and /export/home/development/packages/test differ ..and the package /export/home/development/packages/test no longer functions correctly when installed. Now this is the strange part. If I copy to /tmp (or /var or any other file system on disk0) the binaries are the same and no corruption is observed. Not all packages differ when copied to disk1 - it is more common for large packages (>200Mb) to become corrupted, although small (10Mb) packages have also been effected in the past. This has been going on for a few months and we've trawled the internet looking for something similar without any luck. The best lead we got was possible a bad block on the disk itself which we occasionally write to that could explain the sporadic behaviour? However, the disk where we are seeing the corruption has been analysed and no errors were seen. Any pointers to where we could start looking appreciated. We can't kill off any jobs on the 450 so our only fix at this stage is a reboot. Has anyone else seen these symptoms.
