A few weeks ago I put out this plea for help:

Unfortunately, I did not get a resolution for this one. In the end I
just put 2.6 on the machine which worked without a problem which was a
relief since the
kown-to-be-version-senstive-and-would-require-a-six-figure-upgrade-cost
bit of software that was driving the requirement for 2.5.1 actually
runs on 2.6.

Most answers I received said I could not put 2.5.1 on the machine, I
still do not think this is correct. I have 4 E420R's running 2.5.1
without a problem (Sun support have agreed in writing to support this
configuration too) and there are articles in sunsolve indicating that
2.5.1 on a 220R is supported, I simply ran out of time for getting
2.5.1 up and running so had to pull the plug on it. Only one person
suggested there could be a patch that fixed the problem, I am pretty
sure that is correct but I have no conclusive proof of that.

Thanks to for their thoughts:
