Several people sugested not bothering with a ge.conf file at all but putting set ge:ge_adv_1000autoneg_cap=0 set ge:ge_adv1000T4_cap=0 set ge:ge_adv_1000fdx_cap=1 set ge:ge_adv_1000hdx_cap=0 or similar into /etc/system. As we still have a call open with Sun on this machine and the gigabit card is thought to be part of the problem I wanted to do things by the manual. I have the Sun Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Installation and User's Guide and the answer to my query wasn't in there but it does specify using a ge.conf file to stop conf changes being lost during reboots. Steve Hastings saved the day (thanks again) by sending me some stuff Sun sent him when he had similar problems. The name parameter in the ge.conf file is obtained by looking in /etc/driver_aliases for the ge entry. I also found the answer by booting the machine with the ge0 interface disconnected and looking at the error messages. Hello all We have a Sun Gigabit Ethernet card newly installed on an Enterprise 250 running Solaris 8. We can only persuade the card to talk to the switch if we disable autonegotiation. This means we need a ge.conf file so that autonegotiation can be disabled at boot. I have rtfm several times and am still at a loss as to what to put in this file for the device name, the parent and unit address are no problem but the manual doesn't explain how to find the device name. All help appreciated.
