Many thanks to those who responsed. Managed to fix the problem using a
serial connection and reset the input device to keyboard.
The reason given by the user for setting the keyboard to /dev/null is
that, he could run the sun box without any keyboard. It is to prevent
the system being hang when the keyboard is taken out accidently or
