It was Greg who hit the nail on the head (at the same
time of SUN.... a collegue was on the phone in fact
when Greg reply arrived).
I installed the patch, rebooted (how microsoftish...)
and now everythings is OK.

Hi,
We had problems like this a while back. We tracked
it down to a
memory
leak in an Oracle program that we were running. After
fixing the
program we
didn't have any trouble again.

I'm guessing that you have an Ultra10 or some other
system with M64 graphics.
There is a device driver patch for this: the number is
105362. The current rev we have is 27. I have 250
U10s, and I had to make this patch part of JumpStart.

Benedetto,
Yes. Couple of things to check.
Make sure you're version of Solaris is patched fully
up to date. Make sure you're running the latest
version of X and any window managers you have (ie: CDE
or Motif)
Is it a specific application that seems to be causing
the problem?
Check with the vendor to see if they know of the
problem. Make sure the disc isn't getting full on the
machine running the X server.

Try running pstack on it; if it lisst something
like FindCachedFontPattern, you need to install teh
latest Xsun patch. (Whciuh isn't a bad idea in
itself)

ORIGINAL QUESTION:
Hello everybody,
we are experiencing a problem with the Xsun X server;
occasionally it will hang while users are running
their applications and it's CPU usage will raise to
~100% and truss will show nothing.
At that point nothing will be left but to restart it.
Has anyone ever experienced a problem like this?

TIA
Benedetto
