Summary:

the core of solaris can handle files larger than 2Gig, but not all
applications. the program has to be recompiled with large file support.
the easiest way is to download the compiled version
gzip-1.2.4.4294967298-sol26-sparc-local-alpha
at www.sunfreeware.com
