Summary: trouble accessing a host ( 30 hops max?)

Hi all,

Sometime back I had posted the question(below) and now the problem has dissappeared on its own, may be the routing table somewhere inbetween might have messed up. I am just wondering as to what if it occurs again & what could be the work around? The problem existed for more than a week, and many of the subnets including ours, were unable to access the host, however, the destination host is also a part of our enterprise network.

Thanx to those who replied

Sounds like you're getting stuck at hop 5...if it's a router, the protocol
you're using may not be allowed. SMTP, UDP, and TCP are often treated
differently on different routers for performance or security reasons, or your
mail server may be allowed through while your local machine is not.

Your traceroute output indicates you have problems with the 6th hop. Either the
5th hop does know how or can't reach the sixth, or the sixth doesn't know how to
route back to you.

E-mail is a store and forward protocol. Your e-mail server is probably
delivering to an alternative site for the destination, and that alterative site
is actually forwarding it to the destination. A header for a successfully
delivered e-mail would provide confirmation.

I think you have a routing problem. This is not 30 hops. What it says is the
device at 10.2.155.30 (step 5) does not have a route to your final destination. The '*'s in the rest of the steps represent timeouts.
