Salman

Try using an exclude file, which is a text file containing the name
of the file you want to exclude from the operation.

        For example:

                tar -xvfX <archive> <path to exclude file>

If the file named in the exclude file is a directory, tar will
ignore it and all its contents.

Good Luck
