The solution turned out to be that I needed to apply the niskit patch
103053-08 and reboot or realistically restart the rpc.yppasswd daemon.
Thanks to all those who provided troubleshooting tips and assistance.

Sounds like a few services didn't start on the nis master, make sure the
following services started on the master:

rpc.yppasswdd
rpc.ypupdated

Hope this helps

Subject: Nis problem

Hi,

We are using 2.5 and NIS. When I try to change someone's passwd, it tells
me

yppasswd: couldn't create client

This just started happening. The only thing I can think of is I just
applied the y2000 patches which includes a passwd patch. I have backed out
the patch but I'm still having the same problem.

Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nicole
