SUMMARY: Handheld Devices as a Password Repository

(Will try to make this short, as it's quite OT. Details again available
from http://www.informatik.uni-trier.de/~bern/Handheld/ .)

Original request: What electronic gadget to use to carry passwords
around, hopefully upgrade my calendar to (from OpenWin cmsd), and a
couple more things if possible.

Hand(held)s-down victory for the Palm OS platform, with Psions coming
in second, and the rest of the bunch restricted to *very* special
cases IMHO. In terms of models, I'm very seriously checking out the
new Handspring Visor's, with the 2 MB IBM WorkPad as fallback possi-
bility. Obtaining a case (shock, water, and loss protection) and special
software to manage passwords (data by default not encrypted in memory,
might get accidentally disclosed after being "synced" onto a computer)
strongly suggested, and computer-side software must be obtained to be
able to sync (to Linux and Solaris); all other bases covered out-of-
the-box, as far as my current *serious* needs go.

Thanks-to and other information: See URL above.

Thanks again,
                                                                J. Bern
