Thanks to everyone who responded.  You were all correct: big file=no space, 
and all the du, find and ls methods suggested were helpful.  It turned out 
there was a file in /dev/rmt that was huge.  It was named 0 and was a bad 
tar file of someone's .pst (MS Outlook/Exchange) file.  I have no idea 
where it came from, how it got there or who's it was, but its gone now.
I'm amazed at how many different methods there are to glean harvest 
information using unix.
