Summary: Errors in messages file

List,
Thanks for all the replies. The original question is found below.
Q1) The overwhelming response was a bad tape in my tape drive or the tape
drive needed to be cleaned. I cleaned the tape drive AND replaced the
tape. We have not had any other problems.
Q2) We have not fixed the second problem as of yet. I did not recognize
one of the addresses and was concerned that possibly someone had tried to
break in. After I sent the note some one told me these id's belonged to
the same person. The responses I received on this one were, that I should
check the /etc/hosts or NIS+ database for proper entries.

Thanks again,
Calvin

Subject: Errors in messages file

List,

I just noticed these sets of errors on our SUN 690 Solaris 2.5 ( using
NIS+).

Jun 23 03:36:38 tnkrhelp unix: WARNING:
/iommu@f,e0000000/sbus@f,e0001000/dma@f,
81000/esp@f,80000/st@5,0 (st5):
Jun 23 03:36:38 tnkrhelp unix: Error for command 'write' Error Level:
Fatal
Jun 23 03:36:38 tnkrhelp unix: Requested Block 14261, Error Block: 14261
Jun 23 03:36:38 tnkrhelp unix: Sense Key: Media Error
Jun 23 03:36:38 tnkrhelp unix: Vendor 'EXABYTE':
Jun 23 03:36:38 tnkrhelp unix: ASC = 0x3 (peripheral device write
fault)
, ASCQ = 0x2, FRU = 0x0

Are we having hard disk problems or is this even anything to be concerned
about?
AND ----

Jun 23 15:02:07 tnkrhelp in.telnetd[25287]: warning: host name/name
mismatch: valid address != unknown address
Jun 23 15:02:24 tnkrhelp in.telnetd[25311]: warning: host name/name
mismatch: valid address != unknown address

I have substituted 'valid address' and 'unknown address' for what is in the
message file. Where would this mismatch occur?

Thanks - Will Summarize
Calvin
