SUMMARY: uptime, 2.5.1, 670MP

i had corrupted my [uw]tmp[x] files recently by (this is my theory
anyway) filling up /var and possibly causing a partial write/some sort
of corruption.

after zero'ing the files and rebooting it works fine.
