Several people said, get the icons the way you like them and then "save
workspace". That works but doesn't solve "the problem". Others suggested
setting the resource OpenWindows.SnapToGrid to true. I've tried that
without success. "the problem" aluded to above is where one icon
inadvertantly ends up right on top of another icon, effectively hiding the
first icon. If there were an "arrange icons" command, that would take care
of unhiding the hidden icon.

Most folks suggested that I RTFM, which I did and discovered the -Wl
option. Several other folks sent along various escape sequences and
aliases involving echo that don't seem to work with the command tool, but
do work with Xterms
Several others also commented on the advisability of leaving an
"unattended" root session running. While I wholeheartedly agree with them
and am FULLY aware of the security implications, when I'm not infront of
the screen, it's locked.
